Interview with machinima author Baron Soosdon(Continued)
SC: Can you tell us a bit about the "Unlimited
Escapism" series?
BS: They have
never had and never will have any point or plot. Volumes 1 to 3 were about
the landscapes and sceneries of WoW while the vol. 0 series will be about
blowing things up (there will be an other Unlimited Escapism vol. 0 someday).
All the movies are based on electronic dance music, mostly trance and
it's subgenres.
SC: Your work is simply phenomenal and is even award winning,
tell us a little bit about the awards you have won for your work.
BS: Currently
I've won only two awards. In summer 2007 I came second in the machinima.com
& The Ataris music video contest. The prize was really nice -
a GeForce 8800GTX video card. Though I need to upgrade my PC to get the
full of it.
My second award came from the Warcraftmovies.com
Halloween contest. "The
Fifth Horseman" came second and it was rewarded with a money
prize.
SC: Do you prefer the title of author, artist or both?
BS: Both are
fine for me, I haven't actually thought about it that much.
SC: Have you ever implemented your own World of Warcraft characters
in your movies?
BS: Sure. Soosisti
the warlock was first seen on "Two Gnomes and a Tauren" (voiceovered
by my guildleader) and he has since made some appearances wearing the
corruptor item set. His latest performance was on the "Limited
Escapism: To Cure A Hangover" (voiceovered by me).
Nikita the assasin gnome who loves to dual wield
Desert Eagles is based on Gnorgasm. She will have her own action movie
someday, but that is also quite far away now.
SC: You obviously do this for free, and in your own artistic manner,
which I believe adds to the quality by creating movies that you enjoy.
It seems that people like to get on your case about not having plots and
scripts to most of your movies. What would you like to say to those people?
BS: QQ MORE!
(j/k )
Well, no worries people - I will make a plot-line
movie someday (see the previous answer), but I want it to be really really
high quality so it can't be done fast. I need to write it and then find
good voice actors for it. Not to even mention the actual filming.
SC: Often paid jobs can stifle an artists creativity since you're
usually assigned specific projects to do, would you be willing to sacrifice
artistic freedom to get paid to do this? What are your plans for the future?
BS: Currently
I am so poor that I am willing to sacrifice artistic freedom, though not
totally completely. If someone assigns me a job and gives me the resources
- sure, I will go for it.
SC: Any sneak peeks about projects you're working on? I hear you
have a project upcoming that is a collaboration project with Olibith.
BS: Currently
I'm not working on anything. Creating "Limited Escapism: TCAH"
drained me pretty much empty so I wanna keep a little break. That collaboration
project with Olibith (project name OliBeach) is something that we
have had planned for a while. The files have been sitting on my computer
for about two months and I picked them up to continue. This will be a
quite small movie, but I am in no hurry at releasing it.
You can see some preview pictures about it on my
blog.
