Interview with Pally Dog, Site Manager of WoW Vault
(http://wowvault.ign.com)
SugarChick(SC): Hey guys this is SugarChick from WarcraftChicks.com,
bringing you our first LIVE text interview. Ok, its not live for
you guys but its live for us here so go with the flow!
I'm here tonight with PallyDog of World
of Warcraft Vault(WoW Vault), which is part of the IGN network, where
she recently was promoted to site manager! Why don't you tell us a little
bit about your time working at WoW Vault, its been over 4 years now right?
PallyDog(PD):
Oh boy, first question and you're already making me think. You're right,
I start September of '03 so I'll be coming up on five years this fall.
SC: So what duties do you have as the site manager of a site as
large as WoW Vault?
PD: Everything!
My main responsibility is to over see the staff and see that I'm meeting
our site requirements, such as making sure we always have good news, we're
generating new content, there's community interaction. On top of that,
I've been going through the navigation of the WoW Vault to see what we
can do to make it better.
We have tons of incredible content, it's just needs
to be promoted so people know it's there and where they can find it. I
also take care of my own column, Svarra ToeHammer, I do Topic of the Week,
a Weekly discussion post on the general forums. The last big thing that
I do is try to set up exclusive content for our site, in the form of reviews
or special contests and such.
SC: With everything that you do, does it ever feel like it takes
away from your 'play' time? I would guess you spend at least an hour +
a day working on the site.
PD: ROFL Much
more than just an hour a day. As far as taking away from my play time....Yes
and no. For example I have a confession to make. My paladin Svarrah, she's
my main, didn't hit 70 until the beginning of December. Once I was offered
the position of site manager in November I thought I better get my rear
in gear!
I do take a dedicated amount of time each day jsut
to play for fun, not check quests for the site or work on updating any
of database or run dungeons for a guide. Just fun. I do have a tendency
to start taking notes while I'm playing.
SC: I can definitely relate, I've always been a part of gaming
websites or owned them for the past 7+ years and on the lower end of the
staff it may only take a few minutes a day, but definitely on the 'higher
management' end it can become really involving. I have noticed it cuts
into playtime sometimes, but I look at it as an extension of something
I love(the game), so it's all good!
PD: It definitely
is something I love doing so I'm with you there!
SC: So when you are playing, what do you spend the most time
doing, are you a raider, a multi-character leveler? As your name "PallyDog"
eludes you are a paladin, you actually have 2 correct?
PD: Correct.
Svarrah my 70 dwarf paladin, and Pyckles my blood elf paladin. Svarrah
I have played since release, I had her planned out before the game even
went live. Pyckles is still leveling, I started Horde a few months ago
and Pyckles is the GM of a small guild, Murloc Stew. She's only 37 atm
I believe.
As far as raiding... Svarrah is Kara ready, I used
to do MC and Ony with her. My alliance guild, Legendry Sous, raids on
a weekly basis so I do it on occasion.
But I' definitely an alt-aholic and love to just
play. My horde guild runs weekly events, such as Stampedes where we run
a bunch of naked Taurens through a contested area going "Moooo!"
SC: Lol that sounds awesome! I would love to have more guild
events that are just relaxing and fun!
Now did you choose Alliance because they had paladins? If so would you
have possibly rolled Horde(if they had paladins)? Or was it the other
way around?
PD: I initially
rolled Alliance for three reasons. Paladins, Dwarves and all the Horde
females were ugly! LOL Of course some would say dwarven women are too.
When TBC came out with Blood Elves as paladins...well I couldn't resist
that.
SC: Yeah, I would have rolled Alliance myself but when I was
creating my first character my husband was like "I'm horde"...like
most Horde I tried to make myself as "attractive" looking as
possible, that didn't quite work lol.
PD: LOL I do
have an orc warrior who I am rather attached to. Although she's not a
knock out.
